21. Curtis Walker

Picture
13 year old Curtis Lamar Walker, III (5ft, 75lbs, DOB 14 June 1967) lived in apartment 497 at 946 Wilkes Circle NW (same street as the daycare in the boiler incident) in Bowen Homes near Bankhead Hwy, with mother Catherine Murray Leach and brothers, William Murray and Alexander Walker, and sisters, Teaka M. and Kelclo Walker.  He formerly lived in Thomasville Heights.

His father was Mr. Curtis Lamar Walker, Jr., and his grandparents were James  and Pearline Murray, Mr. Curtis Lamar Walker, Sr., Lessie and Ernest Green.  He had an aunt by the name Odessa Tate and uncles Willie Murray, and Byron Orr.  His cousin was Terrell Murray.

Walker was attending 7th grade at A. D. Williams School in Bowen Homes.

He was last seen wearing a brown and blue shirt, blue pants, and blue sneakers.

He was last seen at Archie (& Gary?) Byron's Gun Shop (2176 Bankhead Highway?, where he and his 8 year old brother had often picked up trash for money) looking for work, then walked to a nearby shopping center near the intersection of Hightower Road.  His scent was tracked to the rear of Center Hill School on Bankhead.  He was possibly seen getting into a yellow car.

~1905 Thurs 19 Feb 1981

His uncle who lived with him, Stanley Murray, a maintenance man at East Lake Meadows, was killed at age 21 in 1981 near where Walker was last seen.

Curtis Walker's body was found snagged on a log by a fireman crossing the South River on Waldrop Road (near Flat Shoals Parkway).  A witness claimed that they saw an old green Chevy parked nearby the Tuesday or Wednesday before.  It was about .75 miles from the Chapel Hill Harvester Church where Rev. Earl Paulk received calls in February from someone claiming to be the killer.

The body was missing all his clothes but his underwear.  Latent prints were found on the body.  His cause of death was ruled asphyxiation by strangulation.  06 March 1981
